I have to complain first because that day in Oviedo almost made me laugh out of anger. It was around the afternoon of June 4th 2026. I walked to the Budget counter with my luggage and I felt pretty happy. I had booked a Mercedes Vito on QEEQ and I thought even if I travel alone I can drive a nicer car. Then the staff at the counter looked at the computer and said that I did not book a Mercedes. She said it was a Dacia Jogger. I was confused right away. I took out my confirmation paper and showed it to her. It clearly said Mercedes Benz Vito. She kept pointing at her screen and said the system showed another car group. I asked her again if she could follow my confirmation. She said if I really wanted the Vito I had to pay almost 100 euro more. In my head I started to ask myself. Did I read my booking wrong. Was there something wrong with my order. But the paper in my hand showed the car I picked. I was standing alone at the counter. People were walking around and I heard Spanish everywhere. I felt a bit alone. I went back and forth with the staff. I asked her if there was any way to keep my original car without extra money. She shook her head and repeated that I had to pay more. I also asked myself if I should just accept it there. The trip had already started. But I felt it was not fair because I came with a clear booking. At the end I still paid the extra money so I could leave with the car. My mood was not good at all. When I got back to where I stayed and calmed down a bit I contacted their customer support. I told them everything that happened at the counter. At first I had a big question in my mind. Would they really help with this. Or would they just say sorry and stop there. They did not stop. They started to follow up with me. In the next days I got messages from them asking for some documents and info. In my head it felt like a small one question one answer game. I wondered if these things were useful. What did they want. They asked for the rental agreement that I signed at the local office and also my flight information. I took photos and sent them. It was a bit of trouble but I wanted to clear the extra 92 euro so I tried to give them everything. During this time I was also a little worried. Would this case just fade away. I was traveling alone and during the day I walked around the city. At night when I came back to the room I thought again about this money. Could I really get it back. I also asked myself if I should have refused to pay at the counter. But every time I sent some new files their side replied and told me they were still talking with the rental company. That feeling was special. It was like someone was watching the case for me. It was not like I spoke once and then nobody answered. Time passed. I had already left Oviedo and I returned the car around the morning of June 6th. Life moved on to the next city. One day I received another update from them. They told me that they had talked to the rental company and that they would give me a refund. When I saw that line my first reaction was simple. Is this for real. Did it really work. I read it again and they said they would refund about 95 euro. I did some quick math and saw that this almost covered the extra charge at the counter. It felt like someone finally gave me back some fairness. When I think about it now there were many weeks between the first moment at the counter and the final refund message. I was running around as a solo traveler and my surroundings kept changing. But they kept following this problem all the time. Sometimes I wondered why they would keep talking with the rental company and keep counting just to help me get this money back. The result was that I did not need to argue directly with the counter staff. I did not need to write formal letters. They stood in the middle and pulled the mess back into order. For someone like me who travels alone the worst part is when a problem comes and you feel you have to carry it by yourself. With this experience I found that at least for this case I was not alone in the argument with the counter. Someone helped me piece by piece to make the situation clear. When I finally saw the refund amount the question that kept looping in my head about if the money would come back could finally stop. It was quite a special experience for my solo trip.
