Let me complain first. Who would think booking a car can give you extra money back for no work. I just wanted to book a car in Bangkok and then drive to Surat Thani. The trip is kind of long and I am not very used to Thailand, so I picked a Toyota Corolla with Budget through QEEQ. It was automatic and I felt it was a safe choice. In my head there was only one main question. Cheaper is always better but the price already looked okay so I was too lazy to keep comparing. Later I realized I was actually a bit worried about the price at the start. In my mind I kept asking myself. Should I wait. Should I check more sites. But I was afraid if I waited the good cars might be gone or the price might go up. So I just booked it. Then the funny part came after that. One day I was at work on a break and I suddenly got an email. My first thought was it was just some ad. I opened it and saw it was from them. It said because of Price Drop Protector the price of my booking went down. They already rebooked it for me and would give me back the price difference. In my head I only had one line. What do you mean, I made money while doing nothing. I checked the amount. It was a bit more than 11 euro. To be honest it is not a huge number. But in that moment I felt really happy. It was like when you pay in a supermarket and the cashier suddenly tells you there is a hidden discount. You did nothing extra and you still save some money. I also asked myself. If this service did not exist would I even know the price went down. The answer is no. There is no way I would check the same car price every day. The funny thing is I did not do any action in this whole thing. I did not message customer service or argue about the price. They just watched the price for me in the background and I only saw the final result. For a second I felt a bit proud, like I turned on some secret money saving mode. I also thought about my parents. If they booked a car they would never know about this kind of thing. They would just say the price is the price. Later when I talked with a friend I told him about it. He asked me how did you know the price dropped. I said I did not know. They checked it for me. He did not believe me at first so I showed him the email screenshot. I also told him the service is called Price Drop Protector. The name sounds a bit like a buff skill in a game. For someone like me who is too lazy to refresh prices every day it is really useful. When I think back to the moment I booked the car I was actually a little nervous. I was going to drive in Thailand, pick up the car around July sixth at noon in Bangkok and then return it around July thirteenth around midday in Surat Thani. For a visitor from Europe that feels a bit risky. The car must be reliable and the price cannot be crazy. I was already ready to just accept the price and stop thinking about it. Then this service suddenly saved me some money and I felt a clear little warm feeling in my heart. The weird thing is I am not the type who reads all the small rules of every discount. When I first saw this feature I did not think too much. I just thought if it is there then fine. When I really got the refund I started to think about the whole thing more carefully. I asked myself. If I book again in the future will I care about this feature. My answer is yes. For me it is something that might give me a nice surprise while I do nothing. When I was a student saving eleven euro could mean one good lunch. Even now it still feels nice. No one hates extra money. In this rental experience the car itself and the roads were all quite normal. The part that really stayed in my memory was this small story of the automatic refund. For me this kind of money saving that does not need extra work is much better than those complex coupon codes. At least for this booking QEEQ really made me feel like I earned something by surprise.
