That night in late May I saw this Audi A3 automatic in London on my phone. The car looked nice to me and the price was okay. My first thought was not about the car but about my card. I was worried that if I paid the full amount right away my bill for that month would be too high. Then I saw that I only needed to pay 1 dollar first to lock the car. The days went by and June came closer. I was busy with other parts of my trip and sometimes I even forgot about the car booking. When it was close to June second they took the rest of the payment automatically like they said before. When I saw the charge I did not feel the same stress as when I pay a big amount in one time because I already handled other costs during those days. On June second early in the morning I was already in London and ready to pick up the car. I did not feel nervous at all because I knew the car was reserved for me. Compared to my old bookings where I paid everything at once this time felt like it was split into two steps. Each step felt light and I did not get scared by a big number at the start. During those days in between I was still changing some parts of my plan and checking other expenses. If I had to pay the full rental price at the beginning I might have kept thinking about it and maybe even given up the car. Because of One-Dollar Freeze I could lock the Audi A3 first and then think about the rest slowly. My mindset was totally different. I really like this pay a little first and then automatic payment later style. It makes the booking process look less scary. I am still a student and I like to plan my own trips. My card limit is not very high and when I see a big charge I always feel a bit nervous. With this model it feels just right. I can book the car I want and my card does not feel under strong pressure. When I think about this booking now starting from the moment I only paid 1 dollar I feel like I had more control. I was not pushed by one big payment.
