I have to complain a bit first. I really did not want my credit card to explode again because of a car booking. I travel for work a lot and I always pay first then claim back. My bill already looks scary. I booked this car on QEEQ for a business trip. My plan was to pick up a Nissan Kicks from Avis in Toronto on May 17 at 4 pm and return it on May 22 around noon. When I saw the payment page my first question in my head was do I need to pay the full amount right now. The answer was no. I saw an option called One-Dollar Freeze. It said I only pay 1 dollar first to lock the car and the rest will be charged automatically before the rental starts. Then I asked myself another question. Is there any hidden fee. Will they charge interest. The text was quite clear. No interest and no extra fee. It is just normal rental cost charged later. I felt a lot more relaxed at that moment. So I chose this plan and only paid 1 dollar. For someone like me who travels a lot that 1 dollar felt like I could finally breathe. In the next weeks I still had other trips and I was paying hotels and flights on the same card. If this booking also took the full amount at once my credit limit would feel really tight. This plan was different. I knew the car was booked and I did not worry about no car at the counter. I also did not push a big charge onto my card right away. A few days before the trip I saw the full rental charge show up on my card. The amount was the same as I saw when I booked. There were no strange extra items and no interest. I thought about it and felt that if I could not book with just 1 dollar I might wait and not book so early or I would waste time checking many sites about prepay rules. With this I simply locked it first and then forgot about it. The rest was automatic. I did not have to remember any due date or log in to pay. For a business traveler this kind of light feeling and lower pressure on the credit card really matters.
