When I was standing outside Ljubljana airport ready to pick up my car I suddenly remembered something. I only paid 1 dollar when I booked it. My pickup time was around the morning of May 8 and I was thinking if I should have paid the full amount earlier. Then I saw that the big charge on my card showed up only a short time before the trip started. I did not need to do anything and there was no extra interest at all. I booked the car on QEEQ. The amount was exactly the rest of the booking price. There was no extra fee and no strange small numbers. I even did the math and it was the same as the total price I saw at the start. For a student like me this felt really friendly. On the morning of May 8 around 11 I arrived at Ljubljana with my luggage. At the AVANTCAR counter the staff only checked my passport and license. Then they said they could see my booking in the system. I was waiting for them to say that I still had to pay. They did not say that. They told me it was already fully paid. I felt a small wave of relief. All my worry about the 1 dollar thing was kind of useless. For me the biggest difference was that my mind felt more relaxed. I did not have to lock a big amount of money weeks before. I just paid 1 dollar first like saving a spot. Later when my trip was fixed and my card was ready they took the rest by themselves. I was not charged interest and the bill was very clear. As someone who is still in school and counting living costs this made things much easier. When I think about it if there was no One-Dollar Freeze I might have kept thinking and thinking and maybe not booked the car. I would be afraid to pay too early and regret it and also afraid to pay too late and have no car. This plan sits right in the middle. It holds the car for me and also does not empty my bank card in one shot.
