"Only one dollar" I kind of talked to myself when I looked at my phone. I was a bit doubtful and also a bit excited. I booked my car on QEEQ. I planned to pick it up in London around April twentieth in the afternoon and return it in mid May. It was a long rental and paying the full amount at once felt a bit heavy for me. That night I was back in Australia. My room light was half off and some city light came in from the window. I stared at the screen again and again at this One-Dollar Freeze thing. It said I only needed to pay 1 dollar first to lock the car. I tried to pay. When I saw my bill only showed 1 dollar taken I felt my body relax. My trip felt more secure and my credit card was not hit so hard in one day. In the next days I sometimes thought about it. When I walked on the street or had a break at work I suddenly remembered that my Peugeot 2008 in London was already booked and the rest of the money would be charged automatically before the rental started. I did not need to remember any pay date and I did not need to worry about any extra interest slowly growing there. This feeling was light. It felt like someone saved the spot for me and I just needed to wait for the time to come. After some time I checked my credit card bill again. It was still that same one dollar sitting there. No strange fee. I felt even more sure. For someone like me with a bit of a student mind and a tight budget this way of paying a small part first with no interest makes renting a car less stressful. At least before I fly out I do not have to keep doing math in my head for one big payment.
